Ballina nursing home deaths: Woman faces extradition
A 46-year-old woman is to be extradited from Victoria to New South Wales over the suspicious deaths of two elderly women in a Ballina nursing home in May.
Megan Haines was arrested on Monday at Seaspray in Victoria's east.
Marie Darragh, 82, and Isobella Spencer, 72, were found unconscious in their beds at the St Andrews Village nursing home and both died before the ambulance arrived.
It is understood Haines worked at the home.
It is believed New South Wales police plan to charge her over the deaths as well as the the assault of a third woman, aged 88.
Magistrate Duncan Reynolds granted the extradition and ordered that Haines remain on medication for severe depression.
Haines did not oppose the extradition or apply for bail and will face court in Sydney tomorrow.
