THOUSANDS are convinced. The powers that be do not want Formula One star Lewis Hamilton to win the world championship.
During last weekend’s German Grand Prix, the Brit suffered a shattered brake disc in qualifying that led to countless claims on social media that Mercedes had intentionally hampered his chances so the German carmaker could have its German driver, Nico Rosberg, on pole at the German Grand Prix.
Then, Hamilton himself hinted at a conspiracy theory when race officials decided not to use a safety car when Adrian Sutil’s Sauber was stricken in the middle of the Hockenheim.

Lionel Messi ,

Rumour Mill: Lionel Messi sounded out move to Arsenal before signing new Barcelona contract.
ARGENTINA captain and four-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi seriously considered a move to Arsenal before re-signing with Barcelona in May.
The stunning revelation comes from Spanish website Vozpopuli, which is reporting that the superstar No.10 sounded out then teammate Cesc Fabregas’s agent to talk to the Gunners.
Obviously the move never went ahead as Messi put pen to paper at the La Liga club towards the end of last season to become the world’s highest paid player.
Even if the Gunners were serious about luring the Argentine, his $358m release clause would have provided a rather large stumbling block, while his annual wage of $29m would have made a mockery of Arsenal’s strict wage structure.
Still, the revelation will lead Arsenal fans to dream what could have been.

Barcelona fans have been teased by news Lionel Messi entertained a move to north London.

Hoffman left fortune to girlfriend

ACTOR Philip Seymour Hoffman left his entire fortune to longtime partner Mimi O'Donnell, the mother of his three children, according to a report.
HOFFMAN, 46, died from a drug overdose in February, leaving behind an estate estimated at $US35 million.
The Oscar-winning actor repeatedly turned down suggestions from his accountant about setting aside money for son Cooper, 10, and daughters Tallulah, 7, and Willa, 5, because he "did not want his children to be considered 'trust fund' kids," according to court documents cited by the New York Post.

execution: Court allows

US Supreme Court allows Arizona to execute Joseph Wood.

Joseph Wood

The US Supreme Court has cleared the way for Arizona to execute a murderer who had sought information about the lethal drugs to be used to kill him.
Joseph Wood's execution is scheduled for 23 July.
He argued the state's refusal to name the drugs' maker violated his rights. On Saturday an appeals court agreed, halting the execution.
The case comes as states are having trouble obtaining lethal injection drugs amid a European export ban.
Wood was convicted of the 1989 murders of his estranged girlfriend Debra Dietz and her father Eugene Dietz.
In communications with his lawyers this year, Arizona officials said they would use a two-drug combination of midazolam and hydromorphone to put him to death.

But he said achievements made in the fight against AIDS should not be an excuse for people to rest on their laurels.
"The AIDS-free world that so many of you have worked to build is just over the horizon. We just need to step up the pace," he said.

spotlight on rules, planes in war zones.

Airlines crash puts spotlight on rules governing passenger planes in war zones.

How frequently do airliners fly over conflict zones where anti-aircraft weapons are used?
Quite often.
The rules governing international over-flights vary depending on the nature of the conflict and the capabilities of the weapons known to be in use.
The Malaysian airliner was cruising at 33,000 feet. Ukraine had determined that international aircraft above the exclusion zone limit of 32,000 feet were safe, but the airliner was shot down by a separatist-operated BUK, a sophisticated surface-to-air missile system capable of hitting aircraft at an altitude of 82,000 feet.
