Dr who''

Dr Who scripts leaked online, BBC apologises to 'devastated' fans of TV series

The BBC has apologised to fans of long-running TV series Doctor Who, after five scripts from the upcoming season were leaked online.
Doctor Who's upcoming season is keenly anticipated because it will mark the first appearance of the new Doctor, played by Scottish star Peter Capaldi.
But now the BBC is in damage control after the scripts for the first five episodes were leaked online.
The BBC is urging fans not to reveal details of the shows.
The World Today found the scripts online in minutes, and they contain all the details, from the episode's title to sound effects and production notes.
Jonathan Carlyle is a moderator of several Doctor Who forums and websites and has been reading through the scripts so he can detect the spoilers and delete them.
He says fans are devastated.
"Most have reacted really badly," he said.
"Everybody agrees that this is a really bad blow for the show.
"It means all of the big surprises, all those little bits, because it's not just the big bits that we watch the episodes for; it's like all those references and all that that we didn't see coming."
The BBC is currently investigating how the leaks occurred.
In a statement, its commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, said it deeply regretted the leaks and apologised to the show's fans, cast and crew.
It is understood the leaks came from the BBC itself, after they were uploaded to a publicly accessible website.
Scripts for other programs, such as Top Gear, Misfits and the Great British Bakeoff, could also be found on the same website.
Mr Carlyle is shocked at how easy it was.
"They forgot to add two words - that's literally the only thing that could have stopped this, just two words, just a file in there, and it meant the whole thing was wide open to everyone," he said.
"And all it took was one guy having a look and to find them, for him to download them, for it to blow wide open, because all it takes is one person and it can just spread like wildfire."
Mr Carlyle said the website BBCmiami.com had the scripts for translation, as Doctor Who episodes are generally broadcast globally around the same time.
"It means that people are going to have be really careful - really, really careful - online," he said.
