UK.SHOOTING

JORDON BANTON SHOOTING: ‘Horrible shock’ for small village.

Shooting of a Rugby man Jordon Banton has rocked the community of Newton.

Residents were concerned when they heard sirens and a police helicopter on Friday.

But they soon learned of the news of the death of the 23-year-old.

Ruth Hughes, who lives in Newton, said the whole village was surprised by what had happened.

She said: “It is horribly shocking and we didn’t realise how close it was to us.

“It makes it even more frightening when it’s so near.

“We were out in the garden and heard the police helicopter above.

“We heard bits and pieces about what had happened but the term shooting was used quite early on.”

Mrs Hughes knows the man who discovered Mr Banton’s body on Newton Road.

She said: “It must have been a terrible shock to see something of that nature.

“He was very shaken but a friend in the village looked after him at her house and made sure he was OK.”

Mrs Hughes said the area was oddly quiet on Friday afternoon.

She added: “It seemed very strange that there wasn’t any traffic going past.

“We hadn’t realised lots of roads were closed.

“We had around 11 calls from friends and family asking if we were OK because of how near to us it was.”

U.S. military patrol unit slowly moves through a quiet Afghanistan village, when sudden enemy gunfire rings out and their convoy is ambushed by rocket-propelled grenades. The soldiers spring into action, confronted with an exploding IED and sniper fire from a house nearby. With two men down, fellow platoon members perform tactical combat casualty care as the firefight continues, transitioning to casualty evacuation as the wounded are rushed to the nearest hospital.
Only this isn’t going down in a province near the Tajikistan border, it’s in a replica village located on the 20-acre lot of Stu Segall Productions in San Diego, California. Once one of the largest independent TV/movie studios in the United States,

U.S. Spy plane flees

U.S. official: Spy plane flees Russian jet, radar; ends up over Sweden

U.S Cold War aerial games of chicken portrayed in the movie "Top Gun" are happening in real life again nearly 30 years later.

U.S. Air Force spy plane evaded an encounter with the Russian military on July 18, just a day after Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was downed by a suspected surface-to-air missile that Ukraine and the West allege was fired by pro-Russia rebels in eastern Ukraine.

The RC-135 Rivet Joint fled into nearby Swedish airspace without that country's permission, a U.S. military official said. The airplane may have gone through other countries' airspace as well, though it's not clear if it had permission to do so.

U.S. plane had been flying in international airspace, conducting an electronic eavesdropping mission on the Russian military, when the Russians took the unusual action of beginning to track it with land-based radar.

The Russians then sent at least one fighter jet into the sky to intercept the aircraft, the U.S. official said Saturday.

The spy plane crew felt so concerned about the radar tracking that it wanted to get out of the area as quickly as possible, the official said. The quickest route away from the Russians took them into Swedish airspace. The U.S. official  that was done without Swedish military approval.

Scientist warns

Scientist warns of inevitable solar super-storm propelled towards Earth.

Scientist Ashley Dale from the University of Bristol warns of the “catastrophic” and “long-lasting” impacts of “solar super-storms” and the dangers we face if the threat continues to go unnoticed.

Dale, who was a member of SolarMAX – an international task force set up to identify the risks of a solar storm and how its impact could be minimized, explains how it is only a matter of time before an exceptionally violent solar storm is propelled towards Earth. Such a storm would wreak havoc with our communication systems and power supplies, crippling vital services such as transport, sanitation and medicine. Dale said:

Without power, people would struggle to fuel their cars at petrol stations, get money from cash dispensers or pay online. Water and sewage systems would be affected too, meaning that health epidemics in urbanized areas would quickly take a grip, with diseases we thought we had left behind centuries ago soon returning.

RPG. ( rocket propelled grenade ) AND BOY.ON BEACH

RPG and boy on a beach

RPG.video of a young boy firing a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) on a beach has shocked many people. But what's the story behind it?

The young boy looks tiny as he stands on a beach, places an RPG on his shoulder and fires. There's a huge bang and smoke billows all around. All the while two adults look on and encourage him.

It's unclear who the boy or the adults are. The video itself has been posted multiple times. Though it's being widely viewed now, it appears to have been first posted at least as far back as January.

Though some of the postings refer to it as a "Palestinian child firing an RPG on Gaza Beach", it actually appears to be from Libya. The accents in the video are Libyan, and some have suggested it may have been on a beach in the Sirte area.

China attack on a police station and government offices in China's western Xinjiang region earlier this week left 37 civilians and 59 "terrorists" dead, Chinese state media says.
Police had arrested 215 "terrorists" while 13 civilians were also injured in Monday's attack, Xinhua news agency said on Sunday.
The attack occurred in Shache county, or Yarkand in the Uighur language, and was the latest in a series of violent incidents to have affected the vast region in recent months.
News of the clash first emerged late on Tuesday when Xinhua reported that dozens of people had been killed and injured by a knife-wielding gang.
A spokesman for the exile group World Uyghur Congress later said nearly 100 people had been killed or wounded.
