Lucia Colella accused of murdering elderly husband at Alberton
An elderly woman charged with murdering her husband has been remanded in custody after a brief hearing via a telephone link from her Adelaide hospital bed.
Lucia Colella, 75, is charged with murdering her elderly husband Antonio by stabbing him in the head at their Rawson Street, Alberton home on Sunday morning.
No motive was revealed during the brief hearing at Port Adelaide Magistrates Court.
The accused woman also was injured.
She remains under police custody at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and was part of the court proceedings via a phone link, with her lawyer Stephen Ey and her children by her bedside.
Mr Ey says his client needs assessment to determine the best custody arrangements.
"My client is awaiting a psychiatric assessment which will determine where she remains," he said.
Magistrate Peter Snopek asked if Colella understood the nature of the charge and that she needed to be in custody and her lawyer said she did.
The court was told there might be a bail application made soon.
