Israel readies Iron Dome on Lebanon border as Hezbollah anticipates arms from Iran

One year after Israel’s vaunted Iron Dome defense system helped protect citizens from a rocket barrage launched from Gaza, the Jewish State has deployed the shield to the north, likely amid fears Lebanon-based Hezbollah could get an infusion of cash and weapons from Iran.
In an exclusive interview with FoxNews.com, Col. Yoni Saada Marom, commander of Israel’s Active Defense Air Wing, said that the military drills were not a direct reaction to recent events, but made clear that Hezbollah and other terror organizations close to Israel's borders presented a potentially heightened threat.A view to inside  Israel's Iron Dome click link her:http://video.foxnews.com/v/3952554977001

Google to block

Google to block access to unofficial autocomplete API

willy wonka oompa loompa

Google has decided the autocomplete API it informally offers will no longer be available for “unauthorised” users as of August 10th.
The company says its autocomplete API has found an audience among “a number of developers” who have used its ability to predict a query before a user finishes typing for uses other than Google's intended application of predicting users' search queries. But Google says those coders did so with “a non-official, non-published API that also had no restrictions on it.” Those who used the API also did so for purposes other than Google Search.
To those developers, Google says that if you live by unpublished, unofficial APIs, you die by them as well.
Or as Google puts it:
However, there are some times when using an unsupported, unpublished API also carries the risk that the API will stop being be available. This is one of those situations.
“In the interest of maintaining the integrity of autocomplete as part of Search,” Google writes, “we will be restricting unauthorized access to the unpublished autocomplete API as of August 10th, 2015. We want to ensure that users experience autocomplete as it was designed to be used -- as a service closely tied to Search. We believe this provides the best user experience for both services.”
Those who want to retain an autocomplete feature on their sites can do so if they sign up for Google's Custom Search Engine.
The company points out that it does offer more than 80 official APIs developers are free to use.
There's irony in that position because developers reverse-engineering Google Maps to create de facto APIs were an important factor in the service's rise to popularity. Autocomplete isn't as widely applicable as a mapping service, nor as likely to build a new stream of users and revenue for Google.

Bobbi Kristina Brown, the only child of late singer Whitney Houston, died on Sunday at the age of 22, some six months after suffering irreversible brain damage in an incident at her suburban Atlanta home, her family said in a statement.
Brown, whose father is R&B singer Bobby Brown, was found face down and unresponsive in a bathtub in her home by her partner and a friend on Jan. 31. She was moved by her family to hospice care on June 24.
"She is finally at peace in the arms of God," her family said. "We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months."
As news of her death became public, media crews and some fans gathered on a darkened cul de sac in the Atlanta suburb of Duluth, where ornate street lamps illuminated the ivy-covered brick nursing home where Brown died.
"We just wanted to show our respect," said Ali Joyner, 15, who persuaded her mom and a neighbour to drive the 20 miles from their home in Dacula, Ga. "I just loved her mom, Whitney. And Bobbi is part of that."

British backpackers

British backpackers murder trial: DNA samples available for retesting

Fresh evidence from scene of murder of Hannah Witheridge and David Miller – including alleged murder weapon – could be used in migrant workers’ trial.

Key DNA crime scene samples, previously believed to have been destroyed, will be available for retesting in the trial of two Burmese migrants workers accused of killing two British tourists in Thailand.
Lead defence lawyer Nakhon Chompuchat said the court asked the defence team on Friday to provide a list of the evidence they want independently tested. Police say DNA from both the accused was found at the crime scene.
“Now we must decide what to retest,” Chompuchat said.
Inconsistencies over the police investigation emerged at the start of the trial earlier this month when a testifying police officer said that the sperm samples – the main evidence against the two men – had been “used up”.
But on Thursday, police forensic expert Kewalee Chanpan told the court that although the cotton buds used to take the samples were not available, the DNA extracted still existed.
Other evidence available for retesting includes blood and shoes found on the beach, and a hoe which was allegedly used to kill Hannah Witheridge, 23, from Norfolk, and David Miller, 24, from Jersey, on Sairee beach on Koh Tao island on 15 September 2014.
Andy Hall, a migrants’ rights activist from Britain who is working for the defence, said he was pleased the evidence was being made available but was still concerned about the reliability of the samples.
“We are not confident in the chain of custody of the samples,” he said, speaking from outside the court in the larger island of Koh Samui. He also complained that some CCTV footage from the night of the murders was not looked at by police.
Thai police deny any wrongdoing.

Myanmar sentences 153 Chinese nationals

Myanmar sentences 153 Chinese nationals to life in prison for illegal logging.

Worker draws paint markings on wood logs being prepared for export
Beijing has launched a diplomatic protest after Myanmar handed down more than 150 life sentences to Chinese nationals for illegal logging near the countries' shared border.
The mass sentencing, which sparked outraged editorials in the Chinese media, came after the loggers were arrested in January during a crackdown on illegal forestry activities in northern Kachin state.
For years China hoovered up Myanmar's once-abundant raw materials, spurring popular anger in the former junta-ruled country which is set for a general election later this year.
Beijing's foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang had asked its smaller neighbour to "deal with this case in a lawful, reasonable and justified manner ... and return those people to China as soon as possible".

Typhoon Nangka has barrelled across the western end of Japan's largest main island, leaving at least two people dead and prompting authorities to advise nearly 100,000 people to evacuate.
Rivers burst their banks in the western prefecture of Wakayama after some parts of Honshu, Japan's largest main island, received more than 600 millimetres of rain since the storm began to hit the coast on Thursday.
Two men drowned, one of them a 71-year-old man who fell into a flooded ditch while repairing a window, local media reported.
At least 35 people are reported as injured.
Nangka, named after a tropical fruit, had been downgraded to a tropical storm by Friday morning (local time) but still packed sustained winds of 80 kilometres per hour, with gusts of up to 120 kilometres per hour.
It is expected to dump a further 300mm of rain on parts of Japan by Saturday morning.
Authorities have advised nearly 100,000 people to evacuate across a wide swathe of western Japan due to the threat of flooding and landslides.

Computer hacking

Darkode: Computer hacking forum dismantled; 12 people charged, US authorities say

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and law enforcement agencies from around the world have shut down Darkode, an international online forum used by cybercriminals, and brought charges against 12 people linked to the site, the US justice department says.
US attorney David Hickton announced the charges in Pittsburgh and called Darkode "a cyber hornet's nest of criminal hackers".
"Of the roughly 800 criminal internet forums worldwide, Darkode represented one of the gravest threats to the integrity of data on computers in the United States," he said.
The justice department said the FBI and US attorney's office in Pittsburgh led the investigation, known as Operation Shrouded Horizon.
It included authorities from Europol and 20 countries in Europe and Latin America and included Israel, Nigeria and Australia.
The department said it was the largest coordinated international law enforcement effort ever directed at an online cybercriminal forum.
Cybercriminals used Darkode to trade stolen data as well as hacking and spam tools and services, and methods for cyberattacks on governments and companies.

Thailand jail

Journalists Alan Morison, Chutima Sidasathian facing seven years in Thailand jail for online news story.

The trial of Australian journalist Alan Morison and his Thai colleague Chutima Sidasathian has begun today on the Thai island of Phuket.
The pair have been fighting against charges that relate to the publication of a story on website PhuketWan.com since December 2013.
Mr Morison, who is a former senior editor of The Age newspaper, said they were facing up to seven years in prison for simply quoting a paragraph from an award winning story by the Reuters news agency.
"I'd like to stay free. There is a prospect of jail. We don't think it's likely because we are innocent. But you know, I guess it makes us very concerned about the future," he said.
Mr Morison and his colleague are charged with defamation and violating the Computer Crimes Act.
The defamation charges relate to one paragraph published on the website which cites a Reuters investigative report alleging some navy officials "work systematically with smugglers to profit from the surge in fleeing Rohingya refugees".
The Reuters news agency was honoured with one of journalism's most coveted awards for the story, a Pulitzer prize.
But Mr Morrison said publishing the same report online has had very different consequences for those working in Thailand.
"We'd hoped that the military government might see sense in creating a better atmosphere between it and the media but they have chosen to continue the case, which indicates that the future of the Thai media is not going to be rosy," Mr Morison said.
"Unfortunately, the Thai media is also fairly subdued about these kinds of issues.
"Freedom of the media doesn't get a big run in the Thai press the way it should."

Concerns case could set a dangerous precedent

Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, the International Federation for Human Rights, and the Southeast Asian Press Alliance are just a few of more than half a dozen international organisations to have expressed outrage that Thai authorities have not dropped the charges against the journalists.
Elaine Pearson, the Australia director of Human Rights Watch, is worried this case could set a precedent.
"This is actually the first time that any of the Thai armed forces have tried to use the Computer Crimes Act against journalists, and so we're really concerned about the precedent that this sets in terms of... going after critical journalists that write stories that the military government doesn't like," she said.
"Particularly in an environment where the prime minister, General Prayut, has made statements like, 'oh it's okay to go out and shoot journalists or to execute them'."I think we're really very concerned about freedom of expression right now in Thailand."
