Mystery surrounds drowning of ex-soldier off Pattaya Beach
A former member of the Thai Military was found floating face-down in waters off the coast of Pattaya on Wednesday Morning.
A speedboat crew recovered the body of Khun Chalerm aged 30 on Pattaya Beach opposite the entrance to Soi 13, approximately 200 meters from the shoreline, just before 9am.
The body was later inspected by Police who found no evidence of any injuries sustained to Khun Chalerm prior to his death which is thought to have occurred 2-3 hours before he was discovered in the water.
He was carrying an expired Thai Military ID Card and a shirt and pair of shoes, thought to belong to the victim, were found at the old Jetty close to the entrance of Walking Street.
For now, the exact cause of death is unknown but Police suspect it was either a suicide or death by misadventure. They will wait for the results of a post-mortem examination before closing the case.
